Education

  • Artisan goldsmith, Axxell 2017 - 2019

  • MA in History, University of Helsinki 2014 - 2019

  • BA in History, King's College London 2011 - 2014

Since primary school one of my major dreams in life has been to become a designer. In 2017 I decided to give that dream a shot and applied to study goldsmithing at Axxell.

At the time, I already had a vision for Juuret Jewellery. I wanted to make jewellery that told a story about history and where we come from. I wanted to help people discover our shared history in a fun and new way. I wanted to share the passion I feel for both history and design with others.

Having studied history at university for eight years and worked at museums dedicated to Finnish cultural heritage for almost as many, it felt natural that I should make jewellery inspired by these subjects that I know and love. During my goldsmithing studies, as I was struggling with depression, I came to realise that I also want to make jewellery inspired by other things that are important to me - particularly mental health - and consequently "lived experiences" was added to the sources of inspiration for my jewellery.

Jewellery to me is a way of expressing yourself, your esthetics, and your values. I believe the jewellery you wear should make you feel special and ready to take on the world. Jewellery tells a story and I want the story of the jewellery I make to be one of empowerment and finding a connection to your roots. You should be able to wear jewellery with a clear conscience and it is important to me both personally and professionally to live and work as sustainably as possible.

Juuret Jewellery is, at its core, the amalgamation of my passions for history, design, and sustainability.
